project:Tormis
project: stands for an innovative concert series of contemporary music of the 20th and 21st centuries. The series begins with project:Tormis, which was launched on the occasion of the composer's 90th birthday in 2020.
The internationally renowned Estonian composer Veljo Tormis was born in 1930. The artist, who died in 2017 and is considered one of the most important composers of the 20th century, would have been honoured on many concert stages but the coronavirus pandemic prevented this.
Preserving his fantastic work and making it known to a wider audience are two of the goals of project:Tormis, which will now take place around 2022.
The project:Tormis deliberately places the emphasis on male choir singing right from the start and is dedicated to the composer’s versatile male choir literature. This is placing an important emphasis on maintaining this type of choir, apart from pop, jazz and pub choirs, as well as maintaining the associated repertoire.
Other project: series such as project:Pärt and project:concerts without a composer reference are already being planned.
